SOURCE LEAK DETECTION — TERMS & CONDITIONS
Pretoria / Centurion, Gauteng, South Africa
5.1 Acceptance of terms
By accepting a quotation, making payment, booking an appointment or instructing Source Leak Detection to proceed with any work or service, the client confirms that they have read, understood and accepted these Terms & Conditions.
5.2 Leak detection
Leak detection is a process of elimination using specialised testing equipment, testing procedures and professional experience. Our findings are based on the conditions present and the areas accessible at the time of testing. While every reasonable effort is made to locate and identify the source of a leak, no leak-detection method can guarantee that every existing, concealed or future leak will be identified.
A property or plumbing system may have more than one leak. Repairing one confirmed leak can restore or increase pressure within a system and expose another weak point or leak. A new or additional leak may therefore become apparent after the original leak has been repaired. This does not automatically mean that the original leak was incorrectly detected or repaired.
Detection limitations: Full detection fees apply where a waste-pipe leak is confirmed but cannot be precisely pinpointed. Galvanised pipes may temporarily seal themselves, leaving no active leak to locate. If the leak reappears, an additional call-out fee will apply for further testing.
5.3 Access & site conditions
The client is responsible for providing reasonable access to the property and all relevant plumbing, valves, water meters, pumps, pools and other equipment required for testing.
Detection may be affected or limited by: pipe depth; pipe material and condition; concrete, paving or other surfaces; previous alterations or renovations; building extensions; multiple buildings or structures; inaccessible areas; background noise; undocumented or incorrectly installed pipe routes; concealed or damaged plumbing.
Where site conditions prevent us from accurately pinpointing a leak, Source Leak Detection may recommend further investigation, excavation, rerouting, replacement or an alternative repair solution.
5.4 Pool leak detection
Standard pool leak detection covers the scope specified in the quotation. Additional pumps, plumbing systems, water features, fountains, bottom drains or other non-standard installations may require additional testing and may incur additional charges.
Certain pool components or plumbing lines may need to be isolated, plugged or blanked off before pressure testing can be performed. Where a component cannot safely or practically be isolated or blanked off, that section may be excluded from pressure testing or the test may be inconclusive. Pool testing is also subject to the specific pool preparation and testing requirements applicable to the service.
5.5 Leak detection vs. repairs
Leak detection and plumbing repairs are separate services unless expressly stated as included in the quotation.
Finding a leak does not include: excavation; breaking concrete or walls; opening floors; plumbing repairs; pipe replacement; waterproofing; tiling; paving; marbelite; painting; plastering; landscaping; or other reinstatement work.
Where required, a separate repair quotation may be provided after the leak has been located and the required repair has been assessed.
5.6 Quotations & additional work
Quotations are based on the information, access and conditions reasonably visible or known at the time of assessment. If additional damage, defective plumbing, deterioration or unforeseen conditions are discovered once work begins, additional work may be required. Where possible, the additional work and associated costs will be discussed with the client before proceeding.
5.7 Payment & bookings
Where a deposit is required, the booking will only be confirmed once the required deposit has been received. Appointments are allocated according to confirmed bookings and availability. Outstanding balances are payable in accordance with the quotation or invoice. Source Leak Detection reserves the right to delay or reschedule work where the required payment has not been received.
5.8 Reports
Where a report forms part of the service, it will generally be issued within two business days after payment has been received. Reports record our findings at the time of inspection and should be read together with any photographs, videos, limitations, testing results and recommendations provided. A report does not constitute a guarantee that no other leak or defect exists elsewhere on the property or system.
5.9 Retesting
Where additional testing is requested within 30 days of the original test, a retesting fee of 50% of the original detection charge may apply. Where testing confirms that the problem is directly attributable to defective workmanship performed by Source Leak Detection and remains within the applicable workmanship guarantee, no retesting charge will apply. New leaks, unrelated leaks, additional leaks or failures elsewhere in the plumbing system are not considered a failure of the original detection or repair.
5.10 Repairs & workmanship guarantee
Qualifying repairs performed by Source Leak Detection carry a 24-month workmanship guarantee, unless otherwise stated in writing. The workmanship guarantee applies to the workmanship performed by Source Leak Detection only.
It does not cover: pre-existing defects; deteriorated or corroded plumbing; movement of structures or pipework; defective materials not supplied or installed by us; excessive or abnormal system pressure; misuse or interference by third parties; new or unrelated leaks; failures elsewhere in the plumbing system; damage caused by circumstances outside our workmanship.
The workmanship guarantee does not mean that the entire plumbing system is guaranteed against future leaks or failures.
5.11 Reinstatement & finishes
Unless specifically included in writing, Source Leak Detection does not guarantee exact matching or reinstatement of: paving; paint; plaster; waterproofing; landscaping; decorative finishes; or other existing finishes. Where screeding or basic making-good is included, the surface may be left ready for the relevant finishing contractor. Existing finishes may be damaged, disturbed or unable to be matched exactly when access is required to locate or repair a concealed leak.
5.12 Weather & delays
Certain leak-detection and repair work cannot safely or accurately be performed during rain or unsuitable weather conditions. Appointments may therefore need to be postponed or rescheduled where weather conditions affect the ability to perform the work properly. Arrival times after the first appointment of the day are estimates only. Earlier jobs may take longer than expected due to unforeseen site conditions, and delays may occur.
5.13 Existing property & equipment
Reasonable care will always be taken while working on the property. Source Leak Detection cannot be held responsible for the failure of, or damage to, components that are already deteriorated, brittle, corroded, incorrectly installed, damaged or defective where reasonable testing, access or normal handling causes those existing weaknesses to become apparent. Testing may expose an existing weakness that was already present in the plumbing system.
5.14 No Find, No Fee
Any advertised “No Find, No Fee” undertaking applies only to a confirmed leak and is subject to the specific terms, conditions and limitations of the applicable No Find, No Fee policy. A leak must first be confirmed through a valid test before the guarantee applies.
The guarantee does not apply where testing is prevented or materially limited by: inaccessible plumbing; inability to isolate or pressurise the system; non-standard fittings or components; unsuitable site conditions; faulty or non-functional equipment required for testing; areas outside the applicable testing range; waste pipes or drainage; roof, balcony or waterproofing leaks; rising damp; structural water ingress; or other circumstances outside our reasonable control.
The full No Find, No Fee policy should be read together with these Terms & Conditions.
5.15 Client responsibility
The client must provide all relevant information known about the property and plumbing system before testing begins. This includes, where applicable: previous leaks; previous repairs; renovations or alterations; extensions; underground services; re-routed plumbing; previous excavation; known damaged or defective plumbing; pool modifications or additions. Failure to provide relevant information may affect the accuracy or scope of the investigation.
5.16 Limitation of service
Source Leak Detection will use reasonable professional skill, care and appropriate equipment to perform the agreed service. Our findings and recommendations are based on the information, access, testing conditions and site conditions available to us at the time of the inspection. Leak detection identifies faults based on available evidence and testing results. It cannot guarantee that a property or plumbing system is free from other existing or future defects.
5.17 Photographs & documentation
Photographs and videos may be taken during testing and repairs for the purposes of: reports; record-keeping; documenting site conditions; recording findings; verifying work performed; supporting quotations and invoices. These records may form part of the client’s service documentation.
5.18 Contact & queries
Any query regarding a report, invoice, leak detection, repair or workmanship should be raised with Source Leak Detection as soon as reasonably possible so that the matter can be assessed. We aim to deal with all queries fairly and professionally and will provide reasonable clarification based on the information and records available.
