Water Leak Detection in Centurion — Same-Day from the Rietvlei Base

Centurion is the middle of our map. Every technician van leaves the Rietvlei workshop through the R55 or the N1 exit, depending on which sub-suburb the first callout is in — Lyttelton and Doringkloof pull the R55 route, Highveld and Die Hoewes pull the N1 exit, Irene and Southdowns come off the R21. We service Centurion callouts through the day across those three exits, and the dispatcher balances loads so same-day bookings receive an arrival window as tight as we can plan.

The service ring matters because Centurion callouts get priority arrival slots. If you're calling us from Centurion before midday on a weekday, the arrival window is almost always the same afternoon.

What Centurion water leaks look like — and why

Centurion is a wider suburb than most Pretorians think of it as. Under one municipal umbrella you have 1970s Lyttelton family homes with original copper mains, 1990s Doringkloof townhouse complexes with polycop compression joints, 2000s Highveld cluster developments on HDPE service lines, and modern Midstream estate builds with fully engineered reticulation. The soil underneath all of them is reactive clay — some of the most expansive in Gauteng — and it's the clay movement that connects the whole belt.

Under a 1970s Lyttelton driveway the clay heave has fractured the concrete slab, opened the joints of the original copper, and produced the classic slow pinhole leak. Under a 1990s Doringkloof paved parking area the clay heave has cracked polycop compression fittings at the shoulder. Under a 2010s Midstream estate lawn the clay heave has loosened HDPE ferrule joints on the long service line. Different plumbing eras, same underlying driver.

We choose the method by property generation, not by suburb name.

The Centurion detection sequence

We start with the meter test at the property's isolating shut-off valve — every tap, every appliance, every irrigation controller closed. Once the dial confirms the loss, the No Find, No Fee guarantee kicks in and the diagnostic begins.

For older Centurion stock (1970s Lyttelton, older Doringkloof), acoustic leads. Copper pinholes and galvanised failures ring cleanly through slab and soil, and we usually pinpoint inside a metre. For 1990s and 2000s cluster developments (Highveld, Die Hoewes, most of Doringkloof), we start with an isolator-sequencing walk across the complex before running acoustic on the identified section — polycop shoulder failures are quiet acoustically but they surface on tracer gas above paving. For modern Centurion estate work (Midstream, Southdowns, Blue Valley), tracer gas leads because HDPE is nearly silent on acoustic. Thermal imaging handles hot-line leaks across the whole belt.

Prep

  • Isolating shut-off valve accessible and working. On many Centurion older builds the isolator is set into the boundary wall next to the water meter; on estate stands it's usually inside the house or in a pump chamber. Please locate before we arrive.
  • Close every tap and irrigation timer for the two-hour inspection window.
  • If the property is on an estate, share the estate name and gate reference at booking.
  • Geyser on at least two hours ahead if a hot-line leak is suspected.
  • Enclose dogs.

Frequently asked questions — Centurion

We're booking from a corporate address in Highveld Techno Park — can you handle a commercial callout?

Yes. Commercial leak detection follows the same flat R1,850 rate for a standard two-hour session, though corporate premises sometimes need extended sessions to cover larger service areas. Where the plumbing footprint is significantly larger than a residential property, we may quote for additional time before starting — the terms are documented on the linked service terms page.

We're in Lyttelton and the property has a legacy borehole plumbed into the domestic reticulation. Does that affect the meter test?

Yes — the borehole feed can mask a leak by pressurising the reticulation from a separate source. Please isolate the borehole feed at its dedicated valve before we arrive and confirm the domestic supply is running purely from the municipal side. If you're not sure how, tell us at booking and we'll walk through the isolation with you before the visit.

How does traffic on the N1 affect our appointment?

On same-day Centurion callouts we plan the arrival window around known peak times — early morning bookings arrive after the school run; midday bookings avoid the R21/N1 lunchtime congestion; late-afternoon bookings arrive before the evening rush. We'll WhatsApp a refined arrival window on the morning of the appointment once dispatch has finalised the day's route.

Our property is on the Centurion side of the border with Kyalami — which service ring are we in?

Centurion. Same-day response applies. The service-ring boundary is set by driving time from Rietvlei rather than administrative suburb boundaries. If you're closer to Kyalami than to central Centurion, share your address at booking and we'll confirm which ring covers your stand before the appointment.

Can you diagnose a leak on a property that shares its municipal water meter with a neighbour?

Yes. Shared-meter properties are more common in older Centurion than most people realise, and the diagnostic includes an isolation walk across both sides of the shared connection. We work with both property owners to identify which side of the shared meter carries the leak, and we produce a report that both parties can act on.

No Find, No Fee
